Marbles are often used in buildings and also sculptures. It is is a metamorphic rock composed of recrystallized carbonate minerals. Each slab of marble is unique and one of a kind even though they are all belonging to the same block of marble. That is the reason why marble is so precious and people are always fascinated by it.After going to the marble warehouse, I have a chance to understand where the marble came from and how they will be processed before they are installed. There are also a lot of unique natural stones with more variety of colours and patterns in the warehouse. Natural materials are much appreciated after understanding the story behind the materials.

Archifest 2019 : Craft, Disruptive Digital Craft

The URA Centre, Singapore 2019

Archifest (Singapore Architectural Festival) began in 2007 as an annual festival for the city to celebrate architecture and the built environment. It is a platform for everyone to discuss, debate and dream about the possibilities surrounding architecture and our city. This festival celebrates the importance of architecture in place-making. A city’s built, spatial environment coheres identity amidst the flux of global cities and captures the shared imagination of its people, even as Singaporeans collectively shape the making of the city towards the future.
This exhibition presents two Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) architecture research projects that delve into the reimagination of digital craft in the making of our built environment. Aided by state-of-the-art facilities and a multidisciplinary research ethos at SUTD, the projects mix futuristic aspirations and high technology with heuristic, iterative research. The fundamentals of materiality, pattern and process are examined through generative design, digital simulation and trial-and-error design exploration. ‍

TED talk X Marriott : Inspiring New Perspectives

Marriott Tang Plaza Hotel, Singapore 2019

By injecting human cells into apples carved into the shape of an ear, scientist Andrew Pelling created a cheap artificial ear that could one day replace expensive prosthetic ears. In order to let men experience the pain of menstruation, artist Hiromi Ozaki leveraged technology to create a machine, worn around the waist, which simulates bleeding and muscle cramps. Dr Pelling and Ms Ozaki are TED Fellows, a prestigious group of people worldwide who have been recognised by TED as innovators on the rise in their respective fields.
Both will be in Singapore for the Marriott Hotels TED Fellows Salon, part of a global partnership between TED and Marriott Hotels, where TED Fellows are invited to speak to and inspire audiences around the world. This year’s theme is based on imagination, where the speakers will focus on how they find inspiration and think out of the box.

Kuala Lumpur Architecture Festival / KLAF 2019

APW Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia 2019

KLAF 2019, under the stewardship of Ar Dr Tan Loke Mun, seeks to recapture the essence of Inclusive Festivity, bringing back the FESTIVAL into the Kuala Lumpur’s most celebrated Architectural Event. For 2019, the theme for KLAF is ‘TOMORROW’. The Kuala Lumpur Architecture Festival (KLAF) is the main event of the architectural calendar in Malaysia. Organised by the Pertubuhan Akitek Malaysia (PAM) – Malaysian Institute of Architects, the festival began in 2011, building from the success of the annual DATUM:KL conference started in 2003. Running over two weeks, and capturing the momentum of three impactful weekends, KLAF 2019 will be held from 21 June to 7 July 2019. Its overarching focal theme will be on the future of shelter, food security, technology, architecture and art. Participation for KLAF 2019 will see inclusive engagement with communities from all over Malaysia and the region, encouraging open participation, where the general public and the architectural + ID community can immerse themselves and collaborate in all the experiences the Festival will encompass.
3 Main Venues will play a key role in hosting Key Elements around the concept of Shelter / Future Food Fiesta / Architecture + Art / Archidex 2019 + DATUM:KL throughout KLAF 2019. These venues are the PAM Center and its vicinity (to include APW and Balai Galeri Prima NSTP), Publika Shopping Gallery (renowned for its support of the art), as well as, the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, where KLAF2019 will coincide with Archidex 2019 and DATUM:KL. KLAF 2019 will see other engagement locations such as RUANG by Think City (Kuala Lumpur), the former REX Cinema, as well as, the National Art Gallery hosting related events.
In conjunction with the 10th Anniversary of the Green Building Index, KLAF 2019 will also see the launch of “Greening Malaysia”, a book focused on the development of green initiatives, alongside the release of other books covering “Recent Malaysian Architecture”, and the KLAF 2019 Logbook. One of the elements of inclusivity will be ‘open-houses’ by architectural firms, as well as, hands-on courses to help visitors appreciate what happens behind-the-scenes leading towards building a home. To that effect, the Epic Collective movement will be participating and showcasing their great efforts towards constructing homes for the Orang Asli, based on cultural, practical and elemental feedback that is part and parcel of the Orang Asli lifestyle. The public can get involved in supporting these efforts by participating during the physical building of such homes during KLAF2019, as well as, other on-ground efforts post-KLAF. The sustainability features of these homes coincide well with the overarching ethos of KLAF2019. In line with the ‘TOMORROW’ theme, KLAF 2019 will ultimately take visitors on a journey into IR4.0 and beyond, where humans will live alongside Artificial Intelligence built to ease their day-to-day lives.

Art Jakarta 2019

Jakarta, Indonesia 2019

The 11th edition of Art Jakarta, directed by automotive executive turned art collector Tom Tandio, took place from 30 August to 1 September 2019. Seventy galleries participated, including FOST Gallery, Mizuma Gallery, ROH Projects, and ShugoArts. The event's growth prompted a shift from the Ritz-Carlton Pacific Place to Halls A and B of the Jakarta Convention Centre, a utilitarian venue that took no attention away from the art.
For a contemporary art fair anywhere to persist into its second decade is impressive, but it's worth noting how much Art Jakarta's current form owes to the rise and fall of its regional rivals. In his remarks at the fair's opening, Tandio was modest, describing Art Jakarta as 'the largest and most important fair in Indonesia,' in a space that's 'on par with other international fairs'. If anything, he may be underselling Art Jakarta.

Casa Gessi Singapore Visit

Penang Road, Singapore 2019

Singapore stands as the vibrant heart of one wide area, South East Asia, which in the latest years, has recorded the greatest economic vitality and growth. One of the richest cities in the world, Singapore is visited by millions of travellers and tourists every year. In March 2015, Gessi opens CASA GESSI in the very heart of Singapore, close to the main fashion shopping and commercial boulevard, Orchard Road. Just as in the case for Gessi Milano, Gessi has long sought for a very special location to open an inspírational place where the Gessi's world of beauty, sophistication, wellness, creativity in designing the most intimate spaces of home-dwelling could be represented.
Charm, uniqueness, splendour, were the qualities Gessi was looking for, for establishing its house in Singapore. Indeed these qualities are embodied by the soon to open CASA GESSI in Penang Road.
The place is as unique as one of the very few remaining Victorian mansions in the city, and even more one of a kind as it sits in the very heart of the city. Perfectly preserved, it dates back to the XIX century, and it is a much-protected conservation house. Indeed, thanks to Gessi one precious piece of the history of Singapore comes back to life and regains its original grandness. This project involved the restoration of a 2-storey Victorian building that sits on land which was once a nutmeg estate owned by Dr. Thomas Oxley, back in the Colonial era.
Always driven by a visionary and unconventional spirit, Gessi has developed its own distinctive identity over time, focusing not only on the aesthetics and originality of its designs, or the excellence of its production processes and technologies but also on ethics. In fact, Gessi has combined the strength of its own designs with the desire to be a different kind of company manufacturing its products in a totally integrated manner with unique techniques. And that's not all. The Company also strives to distinguish itself in how it conveys the meaning of its products, leaving more room for emotion, and by exalting the manners in which they can be enjoyed, not just as material objects, but also as cultural objects, expressions of a value system and the epitome of a unique style of living and working. It is a design that is no longer purely stylistic but also attempts to create well-being or to convey a positive message.
