Diploma 3 semester 2Cross-Disciplinary Design Project: Design Clusters
This module is to develop a cross-disciplinary take on a project. I am tasked to respond to a set brief and will have to examine related design disciplines and other specialised fields in relation to my own specialisation. It is structured to provide a breadth of knowledge without compromising the depth and help to enhance skills and knowledge within a broader spectrum. By choosing briefs within the areas of Object Design, Digital Content, Surface Design, Spatial Design and Information Design. I am also asked to investigate into an area that is not within my own discipline. The curriculum is designed to accommodate a variety of design areas and I examine other disciplines in combination to your own.

CRAFT LEARNING CENTRE

The Craft Learning Centre is one of the architectural experiments responding to the maker spirit of notable craftsmen, artists and trade exchanges at Arab Street. The idea of the building was to provide an inspirational space for children, families, long-life learners and also designers to engage and develop an understanding of the making processes. Conceived as a series of simple, delightful and adaptable interventions that enable an interactive learning experience, the spaces promote an understanding of making through active learning: making, collaborating and sharing.

It is also a destination for artisans, designers, fabricators and creative entrepreneurs that would want to learn, interact, research, share or startup collaborations. The project aims to bring together makers creating a unique learning centre offering exhibitions, talks, international workshops and networking seasons which connects the many users of the site in a single but complex building.
It includes an exhibition space, workshops, media library, meeting rooms, café, visitor information services, function rooms, co-working space, study room and terrace event space. The strategy was to focus on creating a visitor experience growing creative and cultural community. The craft centre was created to consolidate the creative making processes and stimulate further creativity on handicrafts in the region. Over time, the centre is supposed to become a point of attraction for urban tourist routes.

Studio Projects 02

Diploma Level 3 Semester 1
Studio Practice 3A serves as a crucial component in the education of an interior designer. The module seeks to incorporate all the technical, vocational and conceptual skills and knowledge acquired throughout the programme leading to the Design Project.
Students are tasked to further investigate a diverse range of projects and specialise in a spatial typology that is of their interest. By means of investigations into these spatial typologies, students further build on their understanding of the technical and practical considerations necessary in the planning of these diverse spaces. Through unconventional spatial manipulations, students are to creatively question, explore and re-define spaces while adapting an overall unity in concept.
Studio work focuses on student’s development and understanding of realistic and technical considerations necessary in designing various spatial typologies. Emphasis is placed on the effective communication these designs and ideas through proficient visualisation techniques and technical documentation.

BOTTEGA VENETA MANSION

Discretion, quality, and craftsmanship - Bottega Veneta has created a new standard of luxury since its founding in Vicenza in 1966. Inspired by Italian culture with a global outlook, Bottega Veneta uses noble materials to create considered pieces that become part of their owner’s life. The house embraces a core philosophy of style, innovation and luxury. The company’s famous motto, “When your own initials are enough,” expresses a philosophy of individuality, accomplishment, and confidence that now applies to women men and house.
With the new creative director, Daniel Lee brings in a sharp injection of modernity to traditional technique and reimagined the iconic intrecciato weaves. He is turning up the volume at the same time remains the quiet craft central and outstanding craftsmanship of Bottega Veneta.
Bottega Veneta Mansion is located at Oxley Road a 2-storey Victorian building that sits at Penang Road, which used to be a nutmeg estate back in the Colonial era. It was one of the preserved building under Orchard Heritage Trail. Studio Projects 03

Diploma Level 2 Semester 2
Studio Practice 2B further builds on the technical skills and vocational knowledge laid in Semester 1 by further developing students understanding of the design process as well as the standards and expectations of the interior design industry.
Students study a range of projects that are hospitality and residential in nature. Students are tasked to undertake investigations into these spatial typologies, acquiring and understanding the technical and practical considerations necessary in the planning of these diverse spaces. Through unconventional spatial manipulations, students are to creatively question, explore and re-define spaces while adapting an overall unity in concept.
Studio work focuses on the development of technical and vocational skills and knowledge that are supported by the understanding of the design process, visual investigations and concept development and analysis. This is supported further with visualisation skills and techniques and technical documentation that will provide an overall articulation of ideas to practice.

SMEG DINING

Back in the days when SMEG produced only stainless steel home appliances with straight lines and only black and white in colour other brands copied and did the same design. Thus, SMEG had decided to "Make A Statement" by changing the entire design of home appliances to a completely new style which is never existed before. Considering the way the design adeptly merges nostalgia with eye-popping colours and all sorts of innovative new materials and design combinations has become popular and an iconic piece of art in everyone's kitchen this evolutionary change of style has inspired me to "Make A Statement" by changing the former spaces in a restaurant. Taking out the lobby & reception area to maximise the focuses of the restaurant which are food & art. The focus in the restaurant has changed from the dining to art which is the cooking processes. Cooking is just like creating artwork with a different approach. Instead of showing visuals, cooking is about the smell and taste created when different raw ingredients are being cooked by the chefs. Making the kitchen as the central focus not only is an appreciation to cooking and also allow SMEG to showcase their appliances that can be used to produce delicate dishes.
